The Federal Skilled Trade Class is available to certain tradespersons who have experience in occupational areas like Industrial, Electrical and Constructional Trades; Supervisors and Technical Occupations in Natural Resources; Maintenance and Equipment Operation Trades; Processing, Manufacturing and Utilities Supervisors and Central Control Operators; Agriculture and Related Production; as well as Chefs and Cooks, and Bakers and Butchers.

This system is based on a Pass/Fail metric, this implies that all applicants are assessed based on a given set of criteria (rather than a points system). In order to be selected, the applicant must meet all the given criteria.

Any applicant wishing to be chosen for this specific program is required to meet all of the 4 criteria (these are set as minimum requirements).

These include the following:

  • Ability to work in one of the trades (Up to 2 Job offers or assessed qualifications)
  • Proficiency in official languages (minimum CLB 5)
  • Previous work experience in the selected trades (minimum 2 years full-time)
  • Meet the employment requirements of the selected trade.
The occupations for the selected trades are included in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) and are at the Skill Level of ‘B’.
